Paul Elam’s Racism and Homophobia Rears Its Ugly Head

In an article deriding a black male feminist Elam calls African American specialty magazines, Ebony, Root and Jet ‘Plantation publications.’

Root, for those who don’t know, is what you might call a plantation publication. Similar to Jet and Ebony, it’s where black, male writers (known as Panda Bears) get to work as long as they don’t get uppity with the black, female feminists who actually run the farm.

A quick review of his work suggests he gets to work in the house, though.

We know many MRA’s are white nationalists and homophobes and here’s Elam suggesting Byron Hurt is a house slave because he has written about his experience with a father who was patriarchal and domineering.

And ‘panda bear’ is actually a slang term that gay men use to describe husky asian men or as a general term to describe an older man with a younger one. The only mention of ‘panda bear’ to represent a black male feminist was AVFM and this very racist article by Elam.

Disgusting.

  1. Many many African-American men have a much greater understanding of women’s struggle to be free than white men. They have gone through the MLK days and this has opened them to an understanding of oppression everywhere. I have known several such men who devoted many years of their lives to helping women of all races knock down discrimination. Their full story hasn’t been told yet. I’d like to thank them for their support here. And thank you for pointing up this A Voice for Men article. I hope they write many more such articles as they are so revealing of the racism in the men’s rights movement.

  2. For those of you reading. MRA’s have somehow shut down my blog. I don’t know how they did this. When you expose hate I guess they don’t like it. So much for freeze peach. I’ve downloaded the entire xml file in case my blog gets erased and I planned on moving to another wordpress site anyway this year. First, I’ll see what WordPress will do before I up and leave since I have posts scheduled, like this one was written a day or two ago.

Let’s hope this can get resolved quickly. I’m not surprised Men’s rights activists attacked this blog. They feel comfortable coming over here harassing women but the moment you speak back men try and silence you.

I don’t know if this is the first feminist space to be attacked like this. Maybe We Hunted the Mammoth has had the same problem, I don’t know.

    Cross your fingers.

    I’ll keep you updated.
